The Challenge

Standing 55.5 meters tall over Ha Long Bay, Bai Chay Lighthouse was a striking daytime landmark — and an empty silhouette after dark. Before this project, the shophouse strip surrounding it told the same story every evening: full of life by day, largely empty by 8pm. Once the sun went down, there was simply no reason for visitors to linger. That gap mattered more than it might seem, since Sun Group’s “all-in-one” experience ecosystem in Bai Chay, next to the Ha Long heritage bay, has been reshaping the tourism landscape of Quang Ninh - and night to night, the equivalent challenge was simply keeping the lights, and the crowds, on after dark.

Turning a static structure into a nightly draw meant solving problems most projection systems never face together: à continuous 360° cylindrical surface with no flat plane to project onto, a marine outdoor environment that punishes standard equipment, four projection zones that had to behave as one seamless image, and a live multimedia show where light, lasers, and fireworks all had to move on the same clock - all within a heritage site where nothing could be left to chance.

The Panasonic Solution

Panasonic supplied the technology backbone for the show : 24 PT-MZ17K laser projectors deployed across four synchronized zones, each housed in a custom SUS304 stainless-steel IP55 enclosure engineered for long-term durability against salt air and coastal humidity, with automatic cooling to hold performance steady through Ha Long’s shifting heat.

A centralized media server handled content processing, geometric calibration, and multi-zone mapping, while advanced mesh warping and edge blending stitched the four zones into one continuous image around the full 360° surface - no visible seams, from any angle a visitor might stand. A high-performance matrix processor with 4K60 capability drove all 24 HDMI outputs simultaneously, giving the show team multi-window control, scaling, and rapid scene-switching for reliable, repeatable live performance.

To make the show feel like one living event rather than four projectors running in parallel, the system was integrated with laser and sky beam lighting over MIDI, OSC, DMX, and Art-Net - so every beam of light, every scene change, moved in exact sync. The show’s content and execution were brought to life in partnership with Alta Media.
